About Dr. Vincent Lai Dr. Vincent Lai is a gastroenterologist having more than 20 years of expertise. Services provided by him includes the adaptive and innate immunity in patients with liver disease, particularly in patients with viral hepatitis and liver failure. He has received training in therapeutic endoscopy and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which enables him to manage difficult gastrointestinal bleeding, remove big colon polyps, and treat bile duct stones, pancreatic stones, and severe bile duct striations. Dr. Lai graduated with his bachelor’s degree from the University of Sheffield in the UK in 1993. He then attended the University of Birmingham in the UK for an additional five years of hepatology specialised training (liver, gall bladder, and bile duct). He was exposed to general and transplant hepatology, particularly the treatment of acute liver failure and viral hepatitis, while working at one of the biggest liver transplant centres in Europe. In England, the Specialist Accreditation Board granted him accreditation in gastroenterology in 2006. In 2007, the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom awarded him a Doctor of Philosophy degree for his investigation into hepatic immunity in viral hepatitis. During this time, he was also actively involved in the treatment of patients with acute liver failure and liver dialysis. He actively participates in both cadaveric and living donor liver transplantation in his Singapore practise. From 2006 until 2008, Dr. Lai worked as a consultant hepatologist at the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he helped to establish services for viral hepatitis. He participated actively in medical research throughout his employment and received a grant from the Trust to research patients with liver infections. In the fields of viral immunology and acute liver failure, he has published widely. Dr. Vincent Lai is fluent in Cantonese, English, Malay/Indonesian, and Mandarin.
