About Dr. Karmen Wong Dr. Karmen Wong is an oncologist having more than 20 years of expertise. Services provided by her includes cancer chemotherapy in breast, gastro-intestinal, lung and HIV related cancers. She pursued her MBBS from University of Adelaide, Australia in 1986, and MMed (IntMed) from National University of Singapore, Singapore in 1990. About 15 years ago, she led the way in Singapore’s first multidisciplinary breast cancer treatment. This required building a framework for medical professionals from other specialties to treat other cancers. In 1997, Dr. Wong also started Singapore’s bone marrow transplant programme for solid tumours. She was the driving force behind Singapore General Hospital’s multidisciplinary tumour board and Breast Cancer Clinic. In 1999, Dr. Wong presented the first Asian study on the perceptions of cancer therapy among Asian patients at the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Annual Meeting. She has also published chapters in textbooks and publications for peer evaluation. Dr. Wong serves on a number of committees, including those for the National Council of Cancer Service, the Singapore Breast Cancer Workshop, and the Singapore Oncology Society. She serves on the Board of Visitors at Changi Prison in the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the Specialist Training Committee at the Ministry of Health, the Breast Cancer Foundation, and other organisations. Dr. Karmen Wong is fluent in English.
