About Prof. Dr. Claudia Spies Prof. Dr. Claudia Spies is a well-known Anaesthesiologist with experience of more than 31 years. She is a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Clean Hands Campaign, Presidium of the AWMF, Presidium of the Patient Safety Alliance, Anti-Infectives, Resistance and Therapy Commission at Robert Koch Institute, and also Chair of the Perioperative Intensive Care Medicine Section of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM). She completed her graduation from Nuremberg and Harvard Medical School Boston, Massachusetts, the USA in 1980, and started working as an assistant doctor in anesthesia and intensive care medicine, Nuremberg Municipal Hospital. Later the worked as a research assistant and specialist training at the clinic for Anaesthesiology and operative intensive care medicine at the University Hospital Steglitz der, Free University of Berlin. Dr. Spies has worked in specialties such as neuro, head and neck, urology, gastrointestinal, obstetrics, vascular, thoracic, pediatrics, etc. She has published more than 730 articles with more than 16,000 citations, and her research focuses on “risk reduction in anesthesia and intensive care” with the main interest being etiologies and repercussions of acquired neurocognitive disorders after surgery and intensive care.
