About Dr. Robert Dachs Dr. Robert Dachs is an orthopedic surgeon with over 10 years of experience in this profession. The doctor’s services include specialization in management of shoulder and elbow instability and treatment of fragility (osteoporosis induced) fractures of the upper limb. His areas of expertise include the treatment of rotator cuff tears, shoulder and elbow dislocations, and upper-extremity sports injuries. In his rooms, he uses ultrasound to aid in the identification of soft tissue injuries. Dr. Robert Dachs completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town, and after receiving his FCS (Orth) SA and MMed (Orth) SA in 2012, he worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in upper limb surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital before completing an 18-month fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery under Professor Basil Vrettos and Professor Steve Roche’s mentorship. Dr. Robert Dachs gained valuable experience in all parts of shoulder and elbow surgery during his fellowship, including arthroscopic (keyhole) and joint replacement surgery. In 2014, he was awarded an International Scholarship by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) to pursue more training in shoulder and elbow surgery in the United States. He worked with Dr. Shawn O’Driscoll at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Dr. Peter Millett at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, during his scholarship.  In 2015, he received the South African Orthopaedic Association/Smith & Nephew Award, as well as the Isidore Kaplan Award from the South African Society for Hand Surgery.  He is a peer reviewer for the South African Orthopaedic Journal’s shoulder and elbow research publications and continues to work as a consultant at the University of Cape Town Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in both clinical and research sectors. His research papers have been published in prestigious international publications and he has presented his findings at both national and international conferences. Dr. Robert Dachs is fluent in English.
