About Dr. Andrés Varela de Ugarte Dr. Andrés Varela de Ugarte is a well-qualified Thoracic Surgeon practicing for more than three decades. He holds expertise in lung transplantation, oncological lung surgery, tracheal surgery, and surgical correction of chest wall malformations. He has over 200 publications in scientific journals and given over 250 presentations at national and international conferences. He holds professional associations with various organizations including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), the European Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ESHLT), the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons (ESTS), the Spanish Association of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), Neumomadrid, etc.; he is also a regular reviewer of high impact journals, including the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Spanish-language Archivos de Bronconeumología (Archives of Broncho Pneumology).
