About Dr. Desmond Wai Dr. Desmond Wai is a gastroenterologist having more than 26 years of expertise. Services provided by her includes liver diseases, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, endoscopy, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and Helicobacter pylori infection. At the National University of Singapore (NUS), Dr. Wai earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1994. In 1998, he earned his Master of Medicine (MMed), joined the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP), and became a member of both organisations.  Dr. Wai enjoys doing research for science the most. In major journals including Hepatology, Liver Transplantation, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Gut, Liver International, American Journal of Medicine, Aliment Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and GI Endoscopy, he has published more than 90 full articles. His research and studies on viral hepatitis B and C, endoscopy, and liver transplantation have all been made possible by his interest in liver illnesses. In peer-reviewed medical journals like Hepatology, American Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Alimentary Pharmaceutics and Therapeutics, more than 80 medical articles were also published. Dr. Wai has also written three book chapters on digestive and liver disorders. Dr. Desmond Wai is fluent in English, Hokkien, Malay, Mandarin, and Teochew.
