About Dr. Fernando Azpiroz Vidaur Dr. Fernando Azpiroz Vidaur is a gastroenterologist with more than 35 years of expertise in this field. Services provided by him includes Gastrointestinal Research, gut disorders, gut motility, visceral sensitivity, intestinal gas dynamics and many more.  In 1977, he received his medical degree from the University of Valladolid in Spain, and after completing a residency programme in general surgery at the San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid.  He completed a three-year fellowship in the Mayo Clinic’s Gastrointestinal Research Unit, where he was awarded the Edward C. Kendall Award for Meritorious Research. Dr. Azpiroz’s clinical practise is based in a major referral unit and focuses on functional gastrointestinal problems in particular.  His study programme looks at the causes of gastrointestinal symptoms and includes both physiologic and pathophysiologic aspects of gut motility, visceral sensitivity, and, more recently, intestinal gas dynamics control mechanisms.  Dr. Azpiroz has received the 1999 Janssen Award for Clinical Research in Digestive Diseases, the International Group for the Study of Gastrointestinal Motility’s Fourth Research Award, the Functional Brain Gut Research Group’s 2003 Research Scientist Award, and the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorder’s Senior Investigator-Clinical Science Award.  Dr. Azpiroz is president of the European Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility and a councillor of the International Motility Group.
