About Dr. Gurkan Celikkol Dr. Gurkan Celikkol is an eye specialist with over 30 years of experience in this profession. The doctor’s services include laser surgery, and many more. Artificial intelligence is one of his areas of interest, and he utilises it to diagnose corneal abnormalities. He received his medical degree from Istanbul University Istanbul Medical School after graduating from Galatasaray High School and completed his residency at the Beyoglu Research Hospital. Dr. Celikkol then moved to the United States, where he worked as a biomedical researcher at Johns Hopkins University. After that, he headed to the University of California, San Diego, where he worked on a number of cornea and artificial intelligence studies as a researcher.  Dr. Celikkol also researched refractive surgery and reputable eye laser centres in the United States and Europe during his tenure in the United States. Dr. Celikkol had a dream of opening a laser centre in Turkey dedicated solely to laser treatment, with the best system and cutting-edge technology, and with standards on par with or better than those found in the United States and around the world. In 1999, his ambition became a reality when the EyeSTAR LASIK Institute was founded, resulting in a surge in health tourism in Turkey, with 90 percent of EyeSTAR patients coming from outside the country. Dr. Celikkol is well-known around the world as the founder and director of EyeSTAR, as well as for a number of other achievements. For his success in establishing, developing, and promoting health tourism in Turkey, he was recognised in “Who’s Who.”  Dr. Celikkol enjoys chess and has won two chess championships, placing seventh in Europe and second in Turkey.  Dr. Celikkol is a MENSA member and is fluent in French and in English.
