About Dr. James Tan Chung Hui Dr. James Tan Chung Hui is an orthopedic surgeon having more than 10 years of expertise. Services provided by him includes treating sports injuries of the knee, shoulder and elbow joints, as well as cartilage and meniscus surgery. He is also knowledgeable with joint replacement, muscle-tendon transfers of the shoulder joint, and minimally invasive (key-hole) tendon and ligament repair. He has also written several unique research publications on the knee and shoulder joints. He pursued MBBS from NUS, Singapore in 2001. Dr. Tan, who oversaw the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), has a proven track record in healthcare administration (2016-2020). He served as the Co-Chairman of the KTPH Medical Device Committee and was a member of the Orthopaedic Clinician Workgroup for the Ministry of Health’s revised MedTech Subsidy Framework for Implants. Additionally, he served as the Musculoskeletal Disease Clinician Lead at the National Healthcare Group’s Centre for Medical Technologies and Innovations (CMTi) (NHG). He obtained fellowship training in the treatment of shoulder and knee injuries, cartilage restoration, and tendon restoration at the Sportsorthopaedie Klinikum Rechts der Isar, Technical University of Munich. He is a three-time recipient of the Service Champion Gold Award. Dr. Tan is a committed clinician innovator who collaborates with A*Star, Osteopore, Trendlines Medical, and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to find innovations in tendon regeneration, surgical implants, methods, and injury prevention. Dr. Tan is an active researcher who serves as an editor for the Asia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Rehab & Technology, the Singapore Medical Journal, and the Journal of Biomechanics. He is a concurrent Adj Asst Professor at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and National University of Singapore School of Medicine. In 2015, his team advanced to the finals of the Young Orthopaedic Investigator Award. Dr. James Tan Chung Hui is fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien, and Teochew.
