About

Kenneth Paul Rosenberg, MD, is one of America’s most highly regarded psychiatrists. He is an addiction psychiatrist in private practice on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He is also affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical Center and NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

Dr. Rosenberg is the author of a textbook on behavioral addictions with an emphasis on compulsive sexual behavior disorder or sex addiction, and two popular books on infidelity and sex addiction and America’s mental health crisis. Dr. Rosenberg has directed films for HBO and PBS, having the first film on serious mental illness ever shown at the 2019 Sundance film Festival. He is a winner of the 2021 duPont–Columbia Award for excellence in broadcast journalism and the George Foster Peabody Award, and he has been recognized by both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Dr. Rosenberg‘s private practice specializes in chemical or drug addiction, alcohol abuse, substance abuse disorders, and behavioral addictions such as sex addiction. He works with a team of addiction specialists, nutritionists, and family therapists.

Dr. Rosenberg strives to form a health-promoting partnership with his patients, many of whom are young adults and middle-to-late-life adults.

“I believe in meeting patients where they are, finding common ground, being respectful and collaborative, and not imposing my values on them,” he says. “The goal of treatment is to find an evidence-based path toward health that we can agree on, not a plan informed by opinion or folklore.”

He also takes a multi-faceted approach to treatment.

“Unlike many psychiatrists these days, I do traditional talk therapy,” Dr. Rosenberg says. “Medications can play an important role, but so can talking about your feelings — and trying things that can improve mental health without side effects, like exercise.”

Dr. Rosenberg earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a psychiatry residency and fellowships in both substance abuse and public health at NewYork–Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Among his many professional honors, Dr. Rosenberg was named a 2020 Exemplary Psychiatrist by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
