About

Dr Nicola Clayton is a highly esteemed consultant dermatologist based in London. She has sub specialised in hair loss and scalp disorders but continues to be a general dermatologist, treating both adults and children with inflammatory conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea, along with keloid scarring, mole checks and skin cancer. Procedures include cryotherapy, steroid injections, skin biopsies and minor surgery.
 
She undertook her Medical training at The University of Bristol, additionally achieving an Intercalated Bachelor’s degree in Medical Ethics and Law. After graduating, Dr Clayton moved to London for her Junior Doctor years, primarily at University College Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington before embarking on her specialist Dermatology training, at The Royal Free Hospital and Bartshealth.
 
Dr Clayton is particularly interested in alopecia influenced by her own experience of alopecia areata, meaning she truly understands the feelings of patients suffering from hair loss and does her utmost to not only effectively treat but to help navigate living with the condition. Her experience inspired her to organise a research sabbatical in hair biology and hair histopathology during her postgraduate education and presented her findings at The World Congress for Hair Research, The American Society of Dermatopathology and The London Histopathology Symposium. She continues her Dermatology academic interest, collaborating with Dr Hannen’s laboratory at The Blizzard Institute and supporting clinical research with Keratify Ltd, a spinout company from Queen Mary University London.
 
She holds her NHS Consultant post at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where she runs a specialist Paediatric Hair clinic. She offers private appointments in both Holborn and Fulham. Dr Clayton treats every patient holistically in order to deliver a high standard of care.
 
Dr Clayton is also a member of several organisations, including The British Association of Dermatologists, The British Hair & Nail Society, The Royal College of Physicians and The Royal Society of Medicine. She co-chairs the International Trichology Congress Grand Rounds. Her research publications have been featured in several peer-reviewed journals and she has featured in various British and American newspaper publications.
