Dr. Apostolides’ philosphy is that surgery should be a last choice for treatment, and everything else should be considered first. After all non-surgical options have been thoroughly explored, then surgery should be considered. Most episodes of acute back pain can be resolved with rest, activity modifications, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy and a home exercise program. Most patients can avoid future episodes by taking a comprehensive approach to recovery that includes weight and posture control, muscle strengthening, sleeping on a good mattress and not smoking.
