About Dr. Sithombo Maqungo Dr. Sithombo Maqungo is an orthopedic surgeon with over 10 years of experience in this profession. The doctor’s services include hip replacement and fracture surgery, Pelvis and Acetabulum fracture reconstruction, etc. Dr. Sithombo Maqungo’s educational qualifications include degrees in MBChB, FC Ortho, and MMed. He performed his internship at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth and Community Service at Bisho and Cecilia Makiwane Hospitals in the Eastern Cape after finishing his undergraduate degree at the former University of Natal. In 2004, he returned to South Africa to begin specialty postgraduate training at the University of Cape Town. Following his fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery, he worked as an AO Gordon Siboto Travelling Fellow in Pelvis and Acetabular Trauma Surgery at the Hadassah Hebrew University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel, and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, USA. This was done under the guidance of world-renowned professors Rami Mosheiff and David Helfet. As a Professor at the University of Cape Town, he retains a strong academic interest and has presented numerous articles at local and international peer-reviewed orthopaedic events. He also contributes to the South African Orthopaedic Journal as a reviewer. As a faculty member of both AO Trauma South Africa and AO Trauma Europe, he has conducted and arranged local training courses for surgeons and theatre scrub sisters, as well as given lectures and practical demonstrations to local and international audiences. Dr. Sithombo Maqungo is fluent in English.
