About

I am the Director for the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship and Research Programs, Vice-Chair of Education, and full-time critical care physician actively involved with the care of oncology patients admitted to the intensive care unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) for over two decades. At MSKCC, I direct the critical care fellows, residents, nurse practitioners and nurses in the care of cancer patients undergoing oncologic treatments or suffering acute side effects both from the cancer and their therapies. I am a major investigator on the use of novel therapies for cancer patients including immunotherapy and chimeric antigen receptor therapies, use and cost of critical care medicine in the United States, utility of corticosteroids in the critically ill, and integrated critical care organizations. I also serve as a principal investigator or co-PI at MSKCC for several multicenter clinical trials in sepsis and septic shock, acute lung injury, and COVID-19.

As a Program Member of the Cancer Center Support Grant, I participate in the Center’s research activities as either an independent investigator, as a leader of one or more research governance committees, or as part of a research team.
