About Dr. Tan Chyn Hong Dr. Tan Chyn Hong is an orthopedic surgeon having more than 20 years of expertise. Services provided by him includes implantless anthroscopic rotator cuff shoulder surgery and treatment of shoulder, knee and elbow problems. In 1998, Dr. Tan Chyn Hong earned an MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). After finishing his fellowship in Australia, he continued his sub-specialty training in the shoulder, knee, and elbow. He has treated professional athletes who have sustained sports injuries as well as patients who have degenerative conditions like rotator cuff tears and arthritis of the shoulder and knee. He was the first surgeon to execute a keyhole rotator cuff repair in Singapore without the use of any metal or plastic implants, and he invented the technique of implantless arthroscopic rotator cuff shoulder surgery. Dr. Tan headed the National University Hospital’s division of sports medicine before transitioning to private practise. His passion for sports was sparked during his school years, when he competed as a national judoka for Singapore at the SEA Games. He continues to be involved in sports professionally by treating injured athletes and helping them get back on their feet. He oversaw a group of orthopaedic surgeons, sports physicians, and sports therapists that delivered all-inclusive medical care. National athletes in basketball, netball, canoeing, judo, taekwondo, and football were among his patients. He participated in the workgroup established by the Ministry of Health to create the national clinical practise guidelines for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee in 2007 while working for the government. As the most excellent applicant in the fellowship examination of the Royal College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery), Edinburgh, he received the first College of Surgeons Gold Medal from the Academy of Medicine Singapore that same year. Dr. Tan Chyn Hong is fluent in English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Hakka, Teochew, and Cantonese.
