About

Miss Joanne Hancox is a vastly experienced consultant ophthalmologist in London. She specialises in the treatment of a variety of eye conditions including eye squint (strabismus) in adults and children, children’s eye conditions and amblyopia (lazy eye). She is currently based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the world’s most reputable providers of eye health services.

She is also an expert in redo squint surgery, Duane syndrome, Brown’s syndrome, thyroid eye disease, restrictive strabismus and strabismus associated with cranial nerve aplasia. She has performed the highest volume of adult strabismus surgery in the world and also treats a very high volume of complex paediatric strabismus.

Miss Hancox achieved her MBBS qualification with distinction and BSc in Psychology from the University College London. She has worked in Moorfields Eye Hospital since 2006, during which time she has also gained fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, one of the highest possible honours for eye specialists. She completed two specialist fellowships at Moorfields in paediatric strabismus and was appointed consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital since 2012.

Throughout her career, Miss Hancox has continuously undertaken groundbreaking research projects, her interests include strabismus associated with thyroid eye disease, psychological effects of adult strabismus, effects of strabismus and amblyopia on children’s quality of life and Botulinum toxin (Botox) treatment for strabismus. She has contributed to countless peer-reviewed journals.
