Mr David Rowlands is a highly esteemed consultant gynaecological surgeon based in Wirral. With more than 35 years of experience, Mr Rowlands is internationally recognised for his expertise in advanced laparoscopic (minimal access) surgery for treatment and is very experienced in the management of endometriosis, menorrhagia and uterovaginal prolapse. He regularly carries out laparoscopic hysterectomy, excisional therapy for endometriosis, and myomectomy procedures, and as an accredited colposcopist, is qualified to perform colposcopy diagnostics and treatment as well. Mr Rowlands is a specialist recognised by the British Menopause Society in the management of menopause. He currently sees patients at Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral and is a consultant gynaecologist in Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board in North Wales training consultant colleagues in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery.

Mr Rowlands originally qualified from the University of Birmingham in 1985. For 25 years, he held a senior consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist position at Wirral University Hospitals, where he was also Associate Medical Director for Strategy and Partnership. Prior to this, Mr Rowlands had served as Medical Director, before stepping down to allow more time for clinical work. Until 2022, he was the clinical lead for maternity for the NW Coast Strategic Clinical Network and the chair of the national NHS England clinical advisory group for the commissioning of specialist gynaecological services. He is chair of the NW Clinical Leaders Network, recognising his clinical and management leadership, as well as a member of the National CLN Board.

In the UK, Mr Rowlands is one of the first gynaecological consultants certified by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. Mr Rowlands is also the director of one of the national-accredited centres in the UK for the treatment of endometriosis, with focus on excisional therapy. The specialist multidisciplinary team at the centre receives referrals from within the UK and abroad. Mr Rowlands has also published on how it is possible to perform 99 per cent of hysterectomies by minimally invasive access – this is in comparison to the national figure of 40 per cent.

Further to his clinical work, Mr Rowlands is involved in research and medical education. He is an invited speaker at gynaecological congresses around the world, the author of publications, case reports and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals, and the co-organiser of the British and Irish Association of Robotic Gynaecologists meeting in Wirral. Mr Rowlands additionally worked as an honorary lecturer at the University of Liverpool from 1996 to 2021. With a comprehensive patient-centred approach to gynaecology, Mr Rowlands is highly regarded for his careful treatment planning and personalised patient care, supporting his patients at every step of their treatment journey.
