About
Mr Jorge Mascaro is a highly trained and skilled consultant cardiothoracic surgeon based in Birmingham. He specialises in a number of complex heart procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafts, aortic valve repair, ascending aorta and aortic arch replacement, descending thoracic aorta and thoraco-abdominal aneurysm repair.
Mr Mascaro completed his initial medical training in 1996 in Chile before relocating to the UK to complete further surgical training at St George’s Hospital. He also undertook a fellowship in heart and lung transplant. Since then, much of Mr Mascaro’s esteemed career has been spent providing excellent care to patients at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham as a consultant cardiac surgeon. Additionally, he is the director of heart and lung transplantation and mechanical circulatory support as well as lead aortic surgeon. Mr Mascaro also currently practises privately at BMI The Priory Hospital in Birmingham.
Mr Mascaro is actively involved in contemporary research on innovative surgical techniques and technology, regularly collaborating with peers and contributing to academic publications in his field. He shares his expertise in talks and webinars for a number of associations, including the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery, of which he is a member.
