About
Mr Kumaran Thiruppathy is a leading general consultant and colorectal surgeon in Reading who specialises in colorectal treatment, including colorectal cancer. He also holds an interest in inflammatory bowel disease, anal fistulas and hernias.
Mr Thiruppathy graduated from The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine University of London in 2002 and continued on the North East London training rotation. He underwent two fellowships, one at Florida South Hospital, USA in a unit with international acclaim for innovations in minimal access colorectal surgery, and the other at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, Australia under the tutelage of the world-renowned Professor Peter Hewitt. His research interests include pelvic floor dysfunction and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
During his time at the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust, he developed the service of robotic colorectal surgery and transanal surgery. He also has a colorectal cancer mortality rate of 1.9%, lower than the national average of 4%.
He has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
