About Prof. Dr. Friedhelm Beyersdorf Prof. Dr. Friedhelm Beyersdorf is a well-known Interventional Cardiologist with 26+ years of experience in the field. He is an active member of the Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), Cardiac Surgery Biology Club (AATS), European Association for Cardio-thoracic Surgery (EACTS), German Society for Cardiology – Heart and Circulatory Research (DGK), International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (ISCVS), Leducq Foundation, European Academy of Sciences and Arts, etc. He studied medicine at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He completed his advanced training in pathology, general surgery, thoracic, cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery at the University of Frankfurt am Main. His dissertation on ischemia tolerance of the human heart was awarded the prize of the Gesellschaft der Freunde Paul Ehrlichs eV in 1982. In 2000, he was awarded the honorary professorial degree by the University of Marilia (Brazil) and also an honorary doctorate (Dr. ) by the National University of Laos (Ventiane) in 2008. His key focus has been on the implementation of blood cardioplegia to improve ischemia tolerance of the heart during cardiac surgery. Dr. Beyersdorf has published 200+ scientific papers in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
