About Prof. Dr. med. Carolin Tonus Prof. Dr. med. Carolin Tonus is a General & Visceral Surgeon with experience of more than 23 years. She is an active member of the German Society for Surgery, German Society for General and Visceral Surgery, Professional Association of German Surgeons (BDC), Surgical Working Group Oncology (CAO), International Society Of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy, International Colon and Rectal Cancer Club (ICRCC), and many more. She studied medicine at the Department of Human Medicine, Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main in 1985, and received a Ph.D. (“Clinical Significance of the Ligamentum Teres Plastic in Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease”) in 1991. She has interests in Diseases of the colon and rectum as well as the interdisciplinary therapy of colon cancer (including irradiation of advanced tumors on the open abdomen – IORT). Sarcoma Center. Dr. Tonus has received various awards such as the Teaching award for outstanding teaching at the Asklepios Campus Hamburg 2012, Teaching award for outstanding teaching at the Asklepios Campus Hamburg 2013, Asklepios Award 2015 (2nd prize in the innovation category), etc. She continues to serve in the field of general surgery while also writing publications and articles in prestigious journals.
