About Prof. Markus W. Buchler Prof. Markus W. Buchler is a Heidelberg-based General Surgeon with experience of more than 33 years. He is a member of reputed organizations such as the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, and an honorary member of numerous professional societies including the Royal Society of Medicine of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the American Surgical Association, and the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, he acts as an editor and a member of editorial boards of international medical journals and has been Editor-in-Chief of Digestive Surgery and Langenbeck’s Archives of Surgery. He studied medicine at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg and later trained in general and cardiovascular surgery at the Free University of Berlin in 1980.  He also received the Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Heidelberg and further specialized in surgery at the University of Ulm, where he qualified for habilitation and was appointed as an attending surgeon in 1987. Prof. Buchler has won several awards such as the Research Prize of the Swiss Society of Surgery, Surgery Prize of the Swiss Society of Surgery, Hippocrates Award, Hellenic Society for Internal Medicine, and many more. He resumes serving in the field of general surgery while also writing articles in national and international journals.
