Professor Mohaned Egred is a leading consultant interventional cardiologist and a world authority in coronary interventions based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He primarily focuses on coronary artery disease, percutaneous coronary intervention, heart valve disease, palpitations, hypertension as well as general cardiology.
Professor Egred specialises in complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). He is a renowned world leader in complex and chronic coronary occlusion PCI. He works internationally as a proctor and physician trainer and is a faculty member of several international meetings and conducts training courses for consultant colleagues in multiple coronary interventions, such as chronic total occlusion and adjunctive devices such as laser and rotablation.
He is in the top 3 highest volume operators in the UK with special interest in complex and high-risk interventions and surgical turn down patients. He also performs structural and percutaneous mitral valve interventions and he is the clinical lead for cardiovascular research at the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Professor Egred also takes a keen interest in medical education, guiding and inspiring future cardiologists. He is a professor of interventional cardiology and cardiovascular medicine at the University of Sunderland & Newcastle University. He also regularly performs live case operations transmitted around the world and have an educational value to all doctors.
He has published over 100 peer reviewed papers, as well as numerous oral presentations. He previously held the role of clinical and educational section editor of the Journal of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Additionally, he regularly reviews for major international journals.
Professor Egred is also a UK national excellence award holder and serves as an expert for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman of the UK government.
He is member of multiple medical societies including the British Cardiac Intervention Society, the Royal College of Physicians UK and the European Society of Cardiology.
